A week long fundraiser is taking place in memory of University of Lincoln student Grace Millane.
The money raised will go to local domestic abuse charities.
A week long fundraiser, in memory of University of Lincoln student Grace Millane, is helping raise money for domestic abuse charities.
She was killed by a 27 year old man she met whilst backpacking in New Zealand.
Those taking part will do 24 kilometres of their chosen exercise in honour of her 24th birthday, which would have been on the 2nd December.
Today (4th December) the club has raised more than ÂŁ1,750. They reached their target of ÂŁ1,000 on the first day.
Helana John, the president of the club said:
"We just really hope that everyone see's how amazing Grace was as a person, we want to continue her legacy.
"I think she'd be so proud of the club raising money, she was such a generous girl and genuinely good natured person, no matter what I think she'll be proud of us doing this."
The club also remembered Grace by placing a memorial banner and white wreath on the Sports Centre Astro on the 30th November, which will stay there during the Grace’s Week (1st-5th December).
24 yellow and blue ribbons were also put up to mark Grace’s 24th Birthday on the 2nd of December.
Helena said:
"It's to remember Grace, but also to raise awareness of violence against women and how we need to stand together and battle the issue within many communities.
"For us, it's important, because unfortunately, prior to this, we didn't know, we didn't have any personal experiences of people being victims.
"It's important to raise awareness, this does happen on a daily and weekly basis and we need to not only fight for every victims rights, but raise awareness that every single day this does happen and it does need to stop."
