One person left in serious condition after boat capsizes off Southend coast

A second person was also taken to hospital for medical treatment

Two people have been taken to hospital after the boat they were sailing on capsized off the coast of Southend in Essex.

The incident, which took place early on Sunday morning (October 13th), happened just off the coast of Shoebury Common beach, close to the town.

During the incident, it was reported that a member of the public had seen two people getting into difficulty in the water and called the authorities.

Emergency services, including the coast guard and fire and rescue services were sent out the area to retrieve the people on board.

As well as this, air ambulance staff were also drafted to the area to provide medical attention to the people.

The casualties were taken to hospital, where received immediate medical help. One person remains in a serious condition.

In a statement, the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic car, three Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Common Road Shoeburyness this morning following reports of two persons in distress in the water.

"Coastguard and Fire and Rescue colleagues assisted in getting the patients ashore."
