Port of Dover: Pleas for motorists to follow traffic plan after hours of queues
Some of those heading across the Channel reported queuing for up to four hours yesterday (Saturday 25th May).
Motorists heading to the Port of Dover in Kent have been asked to ensure they follow the traffic management plan as thousands head to the Continent this weekend.
Yesterday, some passengers catching cross-Channel ferries reported being stuck in queues for up to four hours, while the Port of Dover reported a two hour delay at French Border Control.
The stacking traffic also caused 'gridlock' in Dover itself with claims that some motorists were using routes through the town to try and avoid congestion on the main routes.
A post on X, formerly known as Twitter, from the Port of Dover said:
"Yesterday, we had a high degree of port bound traffic that did not adhere to the management plans in place.
"This unfortunately affected everyone’s journey and created congestion in the town and surrounding area.
"We ask that traffic sticks to the main routes, thank you."
