Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found in a park in Leicester.

The 62-year-old was discovered unresponsive in Beaumont Leys Park at around 7pm yesterday (6 March). He was taken to hospital where he died.

An area between Krefeld Way and Beaumont Way is cordoned off as forensic officers investigate.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hames from East Midlands Murder Investigation Team, said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation into the incident and the events leading up to it.

“The victim’s family have been identified and are being supported by specialist officers through this extremely difficult time.

“We would urge anyone who was in this area during the evening and may have witnessed what happened or have any information about the incident to get in touch. We know it’s not always easy to report what you may have seen or heard but it’s vitally important we speak to as many people as possible.

“A CCTV trawl and house to house enquiries in the area are underway.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 or report via www.leics.police.uk, quoting incident 572 of 6 April.
