Man charged with murder after Hartlepool attack
Victim named as 70 year old Terrance Carney
Counter Terror and Cleveland Poilice have charged a man with murder and attempted murder following an attack in Hartlepool.
44 year old Ahmed Alid, 44 will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
The man who died has been named by officers as 70 year old Terrence Carney.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, who is the Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East said: "We are satisfied that this was an isolated incident and are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter.
"We are grateful for the support and understanding of the local community during this investigation, which has caused understandable concern among local people.
"We will continue to work closely with Cleveland Police colleagues to reassure those affected and keep them informed."
The incident started in Wharton Terrace at 5.17am on Sunday.
Police were called to a property and found an injured man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.
Mr Carney was found on nearby Tees Street, and he died at the scene.
Flowers were left at the scene in tribute to the victims.
