Former BBC newsreader, Huw Edwards, has been stripped of his induction into the Gorsedd of the Bards at the National Eisteddfod.

Edwards, 62, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children on 31 July.

He was inducted into the Gorsedd of the Bards at the National Eisteddfod in 2022.

The Gorsedd of the Bards is an association made up of poets, writers, musicians, artists and other people who have made a distinguished contribution to the Welsh nation, the language, and its culture.

Edwards is the first to be expelled from the Gorsedd.

In a statement, the Eisteddfod said:

"Following a unanimous vote at today's Eisteddfod Court meeting, the Board of Trustees has decided to activate Section 4 (a) (iv) of the its constitution to terminate Huw Edwards' membership of the Eisteddfod and as a result, he will also be expelled from Gorsedd Cymru."

The veteran broadcaster admitted having indecent images of children last week, with seven of the 41 images being of the most serious type.

Cardiff Council has taken down a plaque commemorating Edwards at Cardiff Castle, and the BBC has pulled a Doctor Who episode featuring him from the i-Player.

Edwards will next appear in court on September 16.
