Essex Police have named the four people who have died in a fatal collision in Colchester on Saturday (February 1st).
Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on Magdalen Street just before 4:40am on Saturday.
When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a car carrying three men and one woman had collided into a building on the road, with all four people in the car dying at the scene.
The force have now provisionally named the victims of the crash as Makyle Bayley, aged 22; 21 year-old Eva Darold-Tchikaya; Anthony Hibbert, 24 and 22 year-old Daljang Wol.
All four passengers in the car were students at the University of Essex when they crashed and sadly died.
Tributes have been left at the scene of the crash by the local community, with councillors saying that it was a "terrible, terrible" accident.
Speaking on the update, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper from Essex Police paid tribute to the families of those who died.
"This will be an incredibly difficult time for them and we have specialist officers supporting them," he added.
“Our specialist Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating what led up to the collision but at this stage we do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
"I again want to thank all the attending emergency services for their efforts to maintain the dignity of those who died and to the community for their support and co-operation. If you have any information about what happened, please contact us."
Officers are now appealing for those who may have seen a black Ford Focus being driven along Magdalen Street in the early hours of Saturday morning to get in touch.
Additionally, anyone who may have any information that could be relevant to the case, including CCTV or doorbell footage, is being asked to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 179 from February 1st.
