When it comes to great TV shows, the 1990s were the source of an array of brilliant series. From sitcoms such as Friends and Seinfeld to animated shows including The Simpsons, there was no shortage of brilliant shows.

If you love your nostalgia, then you’ll love KISSTORY All Stars, which sees some of our fave stars, from the worlds of acting, sport, music and beyond look back at the music which shaped them. To celebrate the brilliant shows of the 90s, we've decided to take a look at some of the best shows from the decade.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air aired from September 1990 to May 1996, with six series of the show in total. Will Smith takes the role of a fictional character called Will Smith, who is sent from West Philadelphia to go and stay with his rich aunt and uncle in Bel-Air. Alfonso Ribeiro, James Avery and Karyn Parsons also star.

Fans then got to enjoy a reboot in the form of the series Bel-Air, with series one airing in February 2022 and a second series following in February 2023. The role of Will is played by Jabari Banks.

Kenan and Kel

We loved sitcom Kenan and Kel, which aired on Nickelodeon between August 1996 and January 2001, with four seasons in total. The show was set in Chicago and told the story of best friends Kenan Rockmore (Kenan Thompson) and Kel Kimble (Kel Mitchell).
Other cast members included Ken Foree, Dan Frischman and Vanessa Baden. A host of celebrities made guest appearances on the show, including Britney Spears.

Friends

American sitcom Friends ran from September 1994 to May 2004, with 10 seasons of the show altogether. The show featured the lives of a group of six friends living in New York City.


The group of friends is made up of Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) and Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow).
Back in 2021, fans were treated to a special reunion show, which was hosted by James Corden and saw the cast return to iconic places from the show such as the apartments and Central Perk.

Seinfeld

Seinfeld aired from July 1989 to May 1998, with nine seasons of the show in total. Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, the show sees Jerry Seinfeld play a fictional version of himself.
The show features Seinfeld's life with friend George Costanza (Jason Alexander), ex-girlfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and neighbour Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards).

The Simpsons

The Simpsons first aired in December 1989, with 35 series of the show having been created so far. The show is the longest-running American animated series and longest-running American sitcom.


The Simpson family are the main characters in the show - husband and wife Homer and Marge and their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
Even though this much-loved show is still on our screens to this day, we still loved the nostalgia of watching it when we were younger.

Frasier

Sitcom Frasier aired from September 1993 to May 2004, with 11 series of the show in total. The show was a spin-off of sitcom Cheers.
Frasier tells the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammar), who comes back to his home of Seattle as a radio presenter. Other actors in the show included John Mahoney, Peri Gilpin and Dan Butler.
In October 2023, a reboot of the show premiered on Paramount+, with the series also called Frasier. Fans saw Frasier move back to Boston, taking up a job as as a Professor at Harvard University.

Mr Bean

Mr Bean was created by Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis, with 15 episodes of the show airing in total. The show started in January 1990 and finished in December 1995.
In addition to the TV show, there were also two brilliant films created, starring Mr Bean. Bean was released in the UK in August 1997, with Mr Bean's Holiday later following in March 2007.
Rowan Atkinson also reprised his much-loved character of Mr Bean for an iconic performance at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Mr Bean joined the London Symphony Orchestra for the act - but he got bored of playing the same note on repeat.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created by Joss Whedon, with seven series of the show in total. The show aired from March 1997 to May 2003, with Buffy Summers played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
A reboot was reported to have been started to be developed back in July 2018, however in August 2022, it was later revealed that this had been put on hold. Even the academic community has shown their love for the show, with 'Buffy studies' able to be studied as part of the Master's degree in Cult Film and TV at Brunel University, London.

Sex and the City

Romantic comedy drama series Sex and the City aired from June 1998 to February 2004, with six series of the show in total. The show included the characters Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davies) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon).
In addition to the brilliant show, we also got to enjoy two films, which continued following the characters and their lives in New York City. Sex and The City was released in May 2008, with Sex and The City 2 following in May 2010.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Sabrina the Teenage Witch first aired in September 1996, with the show based on a series of Archie Comics. Melissa Joan Hart plays lead character Sabrina Spellman, who discovers she has magical powers on her 16th birthday. Seven series of the show aired in total, finishing in April 2003.

Sister, Sister

Sister, Sister was an American sitcom which aired from April 1994 to March 1999, with six series of the show in total. Tia and Tamara Mowry play identical twins who reunite as teenagers after being separated at birth.

South Park

Animated series South Park first aired in August 1997, with 26 series of the show airing up until the present day. A film called South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut was was released in June 1999.

Hey Arnold!

Animated show Hey Arnold! ran on Nickelodeon from October 1996 to June 2004. The show tells the story of Arnold Shortman, who lives with his grandparents in the fictional city of Hillwood. A film called Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie was later released in November 2017.

Dawson's Creek

Teen drama series Dawson's Creek aired from January 1998 to May 2003. The show features a group of close friends - Dawson Leary (James Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) and Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams).
