At the end of a challenging year, the RSPCA has shared its most entertaining animal rescue stories to put a smile on our faces

In a year like no other, many of us turned to our pets to put a smile on our faces.
With that in mind, the RSPCA has revealed its funniest animal rescue stories from 2020 to provide some well needed cheer.
A goat at a bus stop in Bradford
People waiting to catch the bus in Bradford, West Yorkshire, were surprised when their fellow passengers included a billy goat.
RSPCA officers were called to help the goat in June after he had visited a number of people’s gardens, before coming to a halt at the bus stop.
A puppy in a lounger chair
A new born puppy found itself in a pickle when it got stuck beneath a reclining chair.
Eight-week-old Pudding's fur became trapped in the mechanism when his owner reclined, not realising he was there.
Fortunately, with help from the RSPCA and Hampshire Fire and Rescue service who removed the electrics, Pudding was rescued unharmed.
A squirrel in a fridge
A strange scrabbling sound from a fridge in September led to the discovery of a squirrel who was stuck in the back.
Officers who attended the house in Wimbledon were able to unscrew the back of the fridge and free the squirrel unharmed, who ran off sharpish, delighted to be freed.
An owl in a fireplace
An Oxfordshire family got a shock when a tawny owl fell down their chimney in April.
Lauren, the RSPCA officer who rescued the bird, said: The first time they realised was when they saw him peering out through the fireguard - he had his feet up against the grill like he was waving and asking for help!”
The owl was taken to the animal hospital to recover from the ordeal.
A seal on the treadmill
Seals aren’t your usual gym goers, so factory workers at a gym warehouse in Wales were stunned to find a seal pup in amongst the treadmills in December.
Staff managed to coax the seal back out to the river, before finding him stuck in a ditch in Llangennech a few days later.
From there he was rescued by RSPCA inspector Leigh.
Vaseline saves the day for fox in a watering can
A fox in Kent who got its head stuck in a watering can was saved by none other than a pot of Vaseline!
After wondering how to free him, officer Lynn White applied Vaseline to his neck and managed to slide him out.
The fox was released back into the wild after a quick check up.
