Eight arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Oldham shooting

Eight people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting in Oldham.
Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on Shaw Road in Oldham at 12:15pm on Thursday (January 16th).
When responders arrived on the scene, they found the victim - an 18-year-old man - suffering from serious injuries, following the incident.
The victim was taken to hospital shortly after the incident, where he currently remains in a stable condition.
Officers launched an investigation following the discovery, and found that the victim had been getting out of a taxi when he was shot at by an unknown person who had been on an electric bike.
Following the incident, officers from Greater Manchester Police have arrested eight different males, all on suspicion of attempted murder.
Three males aged under 18, who cannot be named for legal reasons, as well as an 18-year-old man and two other men in their 20s currently remain in police custody.
Meanwhile, two men, a 19-year-old and another in his 40s, have been released on bail pending further investigations.
Speaking on the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley from Greater Manchester Police said: "We have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible, and I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public.
"We are determined to deliver justice for the victim who sustained very serious injuries and is lucky to be alive.
"Firearms have no place on the streets of Oldham and Greater Manchester as a whole, and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously."
