A murder enquiry has been launched today by West Midlands Police after a man, who was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Wolverhampton, has died.

Ryan Griffiths sadly passed away this morning in hospital following the incident in Burleigh Road, Merridale, on Wednesday evening.

Officers believe the 29-year-old was struck by a dark-coloured car at just before 9pm, and the car involved then drove away.

His devastated family are being supported at this most awful time and are being updated by officers as our enquiries continue.

CCTV and doorbell footage is being retrieved and reviewed as we work tirelessly to understand exactly what happened and identify and trace whoever is involved.

Door-to-door enquiries are also on-going and a forensic examination of the scene has been carried out.

Det Insp Jim Mahon, who is leading the homicide investigation, said: "A young man has tragically lost his life and our absolute focus is on bringing whoever is responsible to justice.

"We'd like to thank all those who have supported our investigation so far, with information and footage from CCTV and doorbell cameras.

"But we'd also urge anyone who is yet to speak to us, and believes they can help our enquiries, to come forward.

"An increased police presence remains in the area so please talk to one of our officers, or get in contact on the phone or via our website."
