Man fighting for life after assault in Liverpool city centre
It happened on Temple Street on Tuesday night
A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious assault in Liverpool city centre on Tuesday night.
At around 9pm, police received a report that a man aged in his 30s had been attacked on Temple Street.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the victim with a significant head injury. He was rushed to hospital where he remains fighting for his life.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and he remains in police custody.
One other male reportedly fled the scene on foot in the direction of Victoria Street and inquiries are ongoing to locate him.
It’s believed that the assault is linked to an earlier disturbance involving three males at The Poste House bar, on Cumberland Street.
Several police cordons are remained in place in the city centre, including Temple Street and Cumberland Street, late into Tuesday night.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and CCTV footage.
Detective Inspector Kev O’Rourke said: “This was a vicious assault that has sadly left a man in hospital in a critical condition.
“A man has been arrested and our investigation is in the very early stages as we look to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“Several police cordons remain in place and officers are in the area to speak to potential witnesses and carry out CCTV inquiries.
“If you have any information about this incident, please let us know as a matter of urgency. If you live in the area or were driving past at the time of the incident, please review your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything that you think could help our inquiries.”
