The suspect involving a shooting in Knockholt on Valentine's Day may have entered the River Thames, Kent Police have said.

Officers are continuing their investigations into the incident after the attack was first reported on Saturday morning (February 15th).

The force says that they were alerted to the Three Horseshoes pub in the village of Knockholt just after 7pm on Friday (February 14th).

When responders arrived at the scene, they found a woman in her 40s who had suffered serious injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

Emergency services were called to the scene to try and save the woman, but despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspects, believed to a man who was known to the victim, soon fled the scene, with Kent Police launching a murder investigation soon afterwards.

During the course of their enquiries, the force discovered a car which was involved in the incident at the Dartford Crossing, close to the Queen Elizabeth II bridge.

As part of their searches of the car, they discovered a firearm - and soon seized the weapon as well as the car.

Police have now added that they received reports of a man near to where the car was found being on the riverside and are now investigation whether he may have gone into the River Thames.

Speaking on the case, senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector David Higham from Kent Police said: "Call handlers received reports of a man on the wrong side of the barrier and we are not ruling out the possibility that he may have entered the water.

"We are currently only looking for one suspect and do not believe there to be an ongoing risk to the public.

"Specialist officers continue to work with the families of both parties involved to support them following this tragic incident."
