Anthony Felton hit 'defenceless' staff member with a wrench

A Headteacher who hit one of his teaching staff with a wrench has been jailed at Swansea Crown Court.
Anthony John Felton, 54, was in work at St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre on 5 March 2025 when he armed himself with the tool and sought out his colleague.
Whilst the victim, Richard Pyke, 51, sat in a chair, Felton paced behind him and produced the weapon before striking Mr Pyke multiple times to the head.
Colleagues heard the disturbance and aided Mr Pyke, calling the emergency services to assist.
Abul Hussain of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Anthony Felton struck a defenceless man repeatedly to the head with a metal weapon, demonstrating he had an intent to cause his victim really serious harm.
“The level of unprovoked violence, from a professional in the workplace, was shocking.
“Too often we see attacks of this nature result in life changing injuries or fatal consequences, and thankfully, that was not the result in this case.”
Anthony Felton was sentenced to an immediate custodial sentence of 2 years, 4 months and given an indefinite restraining order, at Swansea Crown Court.
