An online fundraising page, set up in memory of a 10-year-old girl who was found dead at her home in Sandwell, has raised over £6,000 so far (at the time of writing).
The body of Shay Kang was discovered at an address in Robin Close in Rowley Regis on Monday.
Shay's mother, Jaskirat Kaur, also known Jasmine Kang, has been charged with her murder.
The 33-year-old is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday after being remanded into custody.
The fundraising page has been set up to help pay for Shay's funeral, flowers, and a headstone.
Taylor Blake, one of the organisers, said in the GoFundMe post: "Our names are Taylor and Mel, we are members of the Brickhouse community.
"We have all heard about the tragic death of a 10-year-old close to our homes and even went to school with some of your children. As you may be aware she had no family except her mum.
"The purpose of this is to come together as a community to help raise funds for her funeral and to also help with flowers, head stone etc.
"I will be in contact with other parents who knew her and also her school to help distribute funds to the person who is arranging her send-off.
"She didn’t deserve this at all and the best we can do is make sure she flies high in the most beautiful way."
Investigation ongoing
A cordon remains in place at the end-of-terrace house in Robin Close while police inquiries continue and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with Shay's family and friends.
"Her tragic death has had a profound impact on those who knew her as well as the wider community.
"We ask that they are left to grieve in private as our inquiries continue."
Shay was a pupil at Brickhouse Primary School, which paid tribute to the "bright" child through West Midlands Police on Tuesday.
The school said in a statement: "Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well liked by all and she will be very sadly missed by everyone.
"School is the heart of the community and we have already begun working with our children and staff to support them following this devastating news."
