Drivers breaking the 20mph speed limit on Welsh roads can expect to see fines and penalty points from today.
The law is being enforced on roads where so far engagement with drivers hasn't worked.
Motorists can expect to see 3 points on their licence and a £100 fine for flouting the 20mph limit.
Incoming First Minister Vaughan Gething - who is expected to take up his role on Wednesday - says the policy is here to stay but is being looked at to see if changes need to be made.
Vaughan Gething said: "Well, I've been really clear about the review that's partly in train but also about the need to listen to the public.
"One of the things that comes up frequently is where people have an individual stretch of road they think should be different but also where there are multiple changes on a short stretch of road and I've been really clear about the need to look a that, examine it.
"It's not about wholesale, throwing the policy overboard but its about listening to the public to get it right.
"Most people want to see slower speeds. I've regularly said my son rides his bike, I want to know that he's a lot less likely to get hit or if he did he's much more likely to get up.
"And who wouldn't want that - not just parents but everyone across the country as well."
