Bolton Wanderers gained victory in the League One play-off final after a dramatic afternoon at Wembley saw them defeat Stockport County 4-1.

Bolton made the perfect start taking the lead within the first three minutes, Ruben Rodrigues was in the perfect place as a clearance fell to him in the area and he was able to place his shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Stockport thought they had got back on level terms after ten minutes, when Adama Sidibeh scored but with VAR in play at Wembley, the referee deemed a foul had been committed in the build-up to the goal and it was disallowed.

Despite the rising temperatures, the tempo on the game did not slow down and it soon was 1-1, Sidibeh was not to be denied again, his header finding its way in.

Wanderers made the better start in the second-half and would go 2-1 up due to an own goal, a cross past the face of the goal was bundled in by Kyle Wootton.

The result was wrapped up thanks to the pick of the goals, Sam Dalby showed great athleticism with a shot on the turn in the area as Bolton fans were sent into ecstasy.

There was still time for another goal when ex Bolton defender Josh Dacres-Cogley was sent off for a hair pull in the area, Rodrigues finished the day with a double as he converted.

The full-time whistle saw Steven Schumacher and his players celebrate as Stockport face another League One season.
