Apple unveils new inclusive emojis
Love these ❤️
It's great news for iOS users, as Apple have unveiled new emojis set to be released later in the year. The new emojis include disability-themed designs that include a deaf person, guide dogs, a partially-sighted person and various wheelchairs.
The announcement was made to coincide with World Emoji Day on the 17th July 2019. Apple had previously stated their intention and desire to include emojis to represent people with disabilities, and submitted the designs after consulting with charities.
In order to be more inclusive, Apple have introduced variations on gender and skin tones for the "people holding hands" emoji.
In addition to these designs, it was also announced that a sloth and flamingo have been added.
Apple posted a statement on their website that said, 'Fifty-nine new emoji designs will be available this fall with a free software update for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Thousands of emoji are currently available, including emotive smiley faces, gender-neutral characters, more professions, various clothing options, food types, animals, mythical creatures and more. New emoji are created based on the approved characters in Unicode 12.0.'.
