Riverdale officially CANCELLED after seven seasons

The seventh season will be the last 💔

It's safe to say that teen drama Riverdale has made quite an impression - starting out in 2017 as a murder mystery, the show has headed in some pretty insane directions throughout its many seasons. Despite Riverdale's, shall we say, creative, storylines, it has been confirmed that the upcoming seventh season will indeed be the last.

But, not to worry, as CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz has revealed that the show will get an "appropriate sendoff" - and if we know anything about Riverdale, that could quite literally mean ANYTHING could happen.

Following the network confirming that Riverdale will end after series seven, Mark said to TVLine: "I am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff.

"We had a long conversation with Roberto executive producer yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves…. We want to make sure it goes out the right way."

Mark revealed that all those involved with the show feel that seven years is the "right amount", including cast members.

Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge, and Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper, have previously suggested this, saying: "I think we'll go through season seven. Here's hoping. We'll see," adding that season seven will: "probably be the last one".

Other members of the cast had also previously hinted that the show may be ending soon, including Cole Sprouse, who plays the role of Jughead Jones. Speaking to GQ, he said that he his co-stars are ready to: "Wrap it up with a bow".

Riverdale is currently in its sixth season, with the show being renewed for its season seven back in March.
