Back in August this year we were catapulted back to 2010 when news hit that popular MTV show The Hills would be making a comeback, with most of the ORIGINAL cast! And just as filming for The Hills: New Beginnings commences, bosses have announced that a VERY famous face is joining the cast.

In a The Hills/The OC cross-over we NEVER thought would happen, actress Mischa Barton has been confirmed to take part in the show's reboot.

Announcing the news on social media, Mischa films herself in a car as the show's theme tune 'Unwritten' plays in the background. The caption of the video then reads, '🚨 THIS IS NOT A DRILL 🚨 @mischamazing is joining the cast of #TheHills: New Beginnings!'

Fans were initially thrown by the announcement, with many asking the reason why the actress would be appearing on the show. One user wrote, 'It makes no sense at all!', with another adding, 'WHAT? WHY?'.

HOWEVER, if you look into the news a little further, Mischa's casting makes perfect sense! Yes, that's right...

The 32-year-old first shot to fame playing the role of Marissa Cooper in TV show The OC. The popular series actually inspired bosses to create Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which the led to its popular spin-off show, The Hills.

Not only that, but Mischa has actually appeared on the show before, when the cast went out to bars and nightclubs in the heyday. An insider added, "She was around back in the day and went to all the clubs. She could make for good TV."

Fans of The Hills were left screaming with delight earlier this year when some of the most popular cast members from the show attended the VMAs to announce the reboot. Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Justin Bobby, Frankie Delgado and Stephanie Pratt were all in attendance, along with Speidi's adorable little boy Gunner.

After it was announced that the new show would be called The Hills: New Beginnings, a short trailer was dropped online, with Stephanie Pratt saying, "It’s like we’re all growing up. It’s weird".

Stephanie, who has been living in London for the past five years and also appeared on Made In Chelsea, recently revealed to fans that the show was about to start filming.

Taking to her Instagram page to express how worried she is about filming with her family again, Stephanie wrote, 'Max & I are taking off for #TheHills filming 🎬 — I have been having such bad anxiety the last two weeks & I actually had a few tears. I’m very nervous leaving London- my home for the last 5 years to start filming. I’m beyond sad to be leaving my friends, home & entire life- you guys know how much I love London 💗

'Last time after falling out with family we didn’t speak for 3 years... it is VERY REAL when you are filming with family. I pray that this will not tear us all apart again bc I love my brother so much. I hope it will be an incredible adventure but honestly I am kind of freaking out... I feel so out of my comfort zone filming in LA with so much scrutiny & pressure to make this show EPIC. Hollywood is tough! ...and I’m at such a different place than the rest of the cast (single/no baby) I worry people will watch & think WHY isn’t she married yet what’s WRONG w her etc etc. I’ve changed a lot living in the UK & I don’t know how this will affect everything. Omg I just had a little tear drop on Max.'

She then added, 'Please God give me strength!!! I’m a nervous wreck about it all-I hope this is not a mistake. I love you guys and know your support will help me on this new journey 🙇🏼‍♀️😥'. sic

Meanwhile, despite some fans of the show still holding out for Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari to return to the show, it looks like the pair have decided against the reboot. 😢

The Hills: New Beginnings is expected to return in 2019.
