Joe Locke reveals what is was like joining the Marvel Universe
He plays 'Teen' in Agatha All Along
Actor Joe Locke joined KISS Breakfast with Jordan and Perri to talk about his new role as Teen in Agatha All Along, and opened up about joining the Marvel Universe for the first time.
Known primarily for his role as Charlie Spring in the Netflix hit series Heartstopper, Joe is branching out, with the new role seeing him join the likes of Kathryn Hahn, Debra Jo Rupp and Aubrey Plaza for his first foray into the Marvel Universe.
Agatha All Along is a Disney+ mini series, based on Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn), and a spin-off from WandaVision (2021). Taking place three years after WandaVision left Agatha trapped in the town of Westview, New Jersey, Agatha All Along sees the lead character escaping with the help of a goth teen (played by Joe).
Speaking about his first acting role in the Marvel Universe, Joe revealed he felt the pressure. He told Jordan and Perri: "It was terrifying. I mean it's weird, it’s almost more terrifying now the show is about to come out and there's nothing I can do about anything I've already done, whereas while we were filming it.
"Cause now I’m thinking like, oh that one scene that I... oh I'm so bad in that one scene and this stuff, but when filming it, you know you're in this like bubble of Marvel Secrecy that is sort of less hard than now, where I can't change anything."
He went on to reveal that keeping the secret that he had got the role, was also really hard. "Because when I got the part, they're like, you can't tell anyone until we announce it in like three months," he revealed.
"And it's like, yeah, OK, great. I'm gonna tell all of my friends. Like before, they were even off the phone call I had already told my like all my friends. I'm not keeping that one a secret!"
During the chat, Perri also asked Joe about his appearance on Celebrity Bake Off. "It was so stressful," Joe admitted.
"They're trying to make good TV and I'm trying to make good cakes. Stop asking me questions, I'm trying to make my shortbread!" he continued.
Sadly on his occasion, Joe didn't manage to get Star Baker, despite his best efforts. "I was really wanting to make Star Baker," he explained. "But Sara Cox came in and she just..."
