Why did Richard Madeley leave I'm A Celebrity in 2021?

On Thursday 25th November, news emerged that Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley had been taken to hospital after feeling unwell during the early hours.

Hours later, Richard released a statement revealing he'd been forced to quit the show after breaking his 'Covid bubble' following the trip to hospital.

The 65-year-old said: 'Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution. By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.

'Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue…even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle…

'Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life.'

When did I'm A Celeb 2021 start?

The 2021 series of I'm A Celeb started at 9pm on Sunday 21st November.

In early November, a number of celebs were spotted arriving in North Wales, preparing to isolate ahead of the series.

Who presented I'm A Celeb 2021?

Geordie duo Ant and Dec once again hosted the show. The pair have hosted every single series of I'm A Celeb together, apart from the 2018 series, where Holly Willoughby stepped in whilst Ant took some time off work for personal reasons.

Sharing a video of hosts Ant and Dec reacting to the line-up in October, it's safe to say they looked very pleased!

Where was I'm A Celebrity 2021 filmed?

Following the success of the 2020 series, bosses confirmed in August that filming would once again take place at Gwrych Castle in North Wales, and not over in Australia.

Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning, said: “We can confirm today that we’ll be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

“We’ve always said we have contingencies in place for the series if the Covid situation continued to bring uncertainty, and after a highly successful run at the castle last year we’re pleased that we can return there.

“I have no doubt the production team will produce another hugely entertaining series.”

How do you pronounce Gwrych Castle?

Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust researcher Rhŷn Williams told Wales Online that it's pronounced "Goo-rreech", and apparently added that, "the stress on the 'W' part is paramount."

Does the I'm A Celeb castle have central heating?

It does NOT! Despite a number of viewers wondering if the 2020 celebs were being pampered with heating, due to some walking around in T-shirts and sleeping practically naked, a rep for Gwrych Castle revealed this is not true.

What was the trailer for I'm A Celeb 2021?

On Friday 22nd October ITV bosses released a 40-second long trailer featuring Ant and Dec dressed as knights.

As the boys ride on horseback towards the castle, the voiceover seems to hint the upcoming series could be the most 'gruelling' series yet!

What a great series!
