Rosé explains meaning behind new solo single 'Number One Girl'
The Blackpink singer reveals her vulnerable side
Maybe we're wearing Rosé-tinted glasses, but a certain Blackpink singer seems to be taking the world by storm at the moment. From her catchy collab with Bruno Mars to her upcoming solo album 'Rosie', K-pop legend Rosé is the name on everyone's lips!
And now she's released a beautiful ballad, showing us just how versatile she is as a singer. 'Number One Girl' stormed straight in to the charts on its release on 22nd November. But what's it all about? We take a look...
The 'Apt.' singer really shows her vulnerable side in her new track 'Number One Girl', with lyrics like:
' This late at night / Isn't it lonely / I'd do anything to make you want me / I'd give it all up if you told me / That I'd be / The number one girl in your eyes / Your one and only / So what's it gon' take for you to want me/ I'd give it all up if you told me / That I'd be / The number one girl in your eyes.'
She told Paper Magazine that it was inspired by her tendency to doom-scroll, stumbling across 'bad comments that’s just going to get into my head.' She sings:
'Tell me that I'm special, tell me I look pretty / Tell me I'm a little angel, sweetheart of your city / Say what I'm dying to hear / 'Cause I'm dying to hear you / Tell me I'm that new thing, tell me that I'm relevant / Tell me that I got a big heart, then back it up with evidence / I need it and I don't know why.'
She also revealed: 'I realised how vulnerable and addicted I was to this world and that craving for feeling like I wanted to be loved and understood.' Gulp.
In the music video — which Rosé directed herself — she's seen sitting alone at night, further driving home that message.
The song has already received 35million views on YouTube and has been hailed a 'perfect winter single', with fans calling it 'raw and honest'. And honestly...we love it!
When is Rosé's new album due out?
The singer's first solo album 'Rosie' is due to be released on Friday 6th December 2024.
