Olivia Rodrigo finally addresses the rumours that 'Vampire' is about Taylor Swift
Fans were convinced
Olivia Rodrigo has finally opened up about the rumours that she wrote her hit 'Vampire' about Taylor Swift. For many months, fans had been theorising that the song, which features lyrics 'bloodsucker, dream crusher' (with alternative lyrics in the explicit version), was written about the 'Anti Hero' singer, but now Olivia has put the rumours to rest.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Guardian about the rumours, Olivia explained: "I was very surprised when people thought that. I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.
The singer previously told us in our For The Record feature that 'Vampire' was: "A song about kind of realising how bad a relationship is, I suppose after you've gotten out of it, it's kind of rising from that disillusionment."
She also told us how a trip to get ice cream with friends resulted in her hit song. "I was getting ice cream with my friends in Santa Monica," Olivia recollected. "I was feeling a 'type of way' and I was like, I have to get something to get off my chest. I need to like, get into studio instead of piano and write a song."
She continued: "I had that like feeling inside of me, and so I went to the studio and I sat down at the piano and I wrote the first iteration of this song. It's gone through many iterations, and my producer Dan (Nigro) helped me a lot, and help me and make it what it is today.
"Yeah, it all started from an ice cream trip that went awry!"
Olivia is just days away from releasing her second album 'Guts', which is the follow-up to 'Sour'. She told us that: "Making this album definitely had its ups and downs, and there were some days where I'm just like, wow, the pressure is just insurmountable. I just feel, I don't know what I'm gonna do., and other days where it was really fun and, you know, had a great time.
"But uh, you know, I think at the end of the day, the most important thing, it sounds like so cheesy and cliché, but I just wanted to make an album that I really liked and felt really proud of."
