American singer Lil Nas X, famed for hits like 'Old Town Road' and 'HOLIDAY' has today (Friday 26th March) dropped his epic new single 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)', sharing an emotional letter to his 14-year-old self in the process.

To accompany the new single, Lil Nas X, real name Montero Lamar Hill, wrote a letter to his teenage self where he revealed his reasons for writing the new track, as well as admitting his fear of making his sexuality public.

Lil Nas X, who came out publicly as gay back in 2019, wrote, 'Dear 14 year old montero. i wrote a song with our name in it. it's about a guy i met last summer. i know we promised to never come out publicly, i know we promised to never be 'that' type of gay person, i know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.

'You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say i'm pushing an agenda. but the truth is, i am. the agenda to make people stay the f--- out of other people's lives and stop dictating who they should be. sending you love from the future.' (sic)

After posting the message in the early hours of Friday morning, Lil Nas X's tweet has since gained thousands of likes and comments, with fans revealing how 'proud' they are of the 21-year-old.

One wrote, 'LOVE YOU SIR', with another adding, 'so proud of u'. A third then wrote, 'I'M SO HAPPY FOR YPU THE SONG IS SO GOOD'. (sic)

Lil Nas X's open letter was accompanied by the most amazing music video for his track 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)', which features a Garden of Eden.

Directied by Tanu Muino and Lil Nas X himself, the video starts with a voice saying, "In life, we hide the parts of ourselves that we don't want the world to see. We lock them away. We tell them no. We banish them. But here, we don't. Welcome to Montero."
