Jay-Z has won a $7 million (£5.3 million) copyright court case over the Roc-A-Fella logo. Graphic designer Dwayne Walker claimed he created the logo for Jay-Z’s record label, and was seeking royalties for its use and breach of contract.
However Jay & co. claimed the logo was created by an in-house art director and they were free to use it as they wished.
The judge dismissed Walker’s case following a lack of evidence that the contract existed. Walker said two other people had seen the contract, but the judge said their testimony Plus the case was weakened by Walker waiting 5 years instead of 3 to file his claim. Walker plans to appeal the decision.
