Ed Sheeran has been filming the music video for his next single ‘Galway Girl’ in the city of Galway on Ireland’s west coast this week.

The singer announced the track would be his next single last month, after letting the public decide what song they liked best off his latest album ‘Divide’.

As Ed explained to us the day before ‘Divide’ dropped : “I want to wait a couple of weeks and see what reacts in terms of streaming and charts”, and that’s just what he’s done ‘Galway Girl’ cutting sitting at Number 2 in the Top 40 and ‘Shape Of You’ as Number 1.

Ed worked closely with Irish folk band Beoga on the track and told us he had to “to fight to get the song on the album because it’s Irish folk music”. He also said it was one of the tracks he was most excited about the world hearing. Ed added: “I just know it’s going to work and I really want people to listen to it and like it.”

Today Ed took to Instagram to thank the people of the Galway ‘for helping us shoot a music video yesterday.’

Ed kicks off the UK leg of his Divide tour in Ireland tonight (Wednesday 12th April), before moving dates in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham this month.
