Ed Sheeran to become a doctor eight years after quitting school!
He's delighted with his honorary doctorate
Eight years on from quitting his A-levels aged 16 to pursue his music career, it’s been announced that Ed Sheeran is receiving an honorary doctorate!
The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer will be receive the prestigious honour from the University Campus Suffolk in his home county for his services to music.
24-year-old Ed, who was brought up in the quaint market town Framlingham, said he was absolutely delighted to receive the doctorate.
"I've had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better,” he enthused.
"Suffolk is very much where I call home and I'm always welcomed back and get so much support.
"Receiving this recognition is a real privilege. UCS is at an exciting point in its development and I look forward to building links with UCS and its students in the months and years to come."
Richard Lister, chief Executive of UCS, said of this year’s honorary graduates: "We are delighted to be able to welcome such a distinguished group of individuals as honorary graduates and fellows.
"The range of backgrounds and professions that are represented and the quality of those accepting the award will enhance both the graduation ceremonies themselves and the life of the university in the future."
The initiation ceremony will take place this autumn.
