Shosh is the musical force behind the group ‘24hr Garage Girls’ – which is a mix of DJs, dancers, photographers, models, and everyday women who love UK Garage.
We caught up with Shosh to find out more about UK Garage, the releases she is most proud of and she also shares some advice for aspiring DJs!

How did it all start for you?
"Getting my first guitar at six years old!"
Where is your hometown?
Originally Chicago, USA. I moved to North London in my teens.
What track are you most proud of releasing?
"My Life ft INJA. I wrote and self-released this 2step Garage record a few years ago and I’m still so proud of it. "
Who is your biggest inspiration, who do you have a lot of respect for?
"Flava D for being a female pioneer in UKG/Bass production."
What single night out has been the most memorable for you as a DJ?
"Probably the last night of Outlook 2019. I played 3 sets that day and then proceeded to get very drunk. At about 3am, I got a call from one of the organisers asking me to play the closing set on the main stage! I had about an hour to try and sober up…my whole crew was running around getting water and gum and chips to try and straighten me out, it was hilarious.
That closing set on the main stage was absolutely epic too, I’d never had such a big crowd, and there was thunder and lightning overhead the whole time. It felt biblical!"
What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
"Be prepared to give it everything and grow a thick skin"
Shosh talks about what it's like to be part of the UKG family, her squad '24hr Garage Girls' and what she would change about the Garage genre, in an interview with Sam Divine for International Women's Day.
Where do you think the scene is headed? One year from now? Five years from now?
"UKG is thriving right now, I’m expecting to see Garage tracks fully in the commercial realm in the next year. "
What is one subgenre you think doesn't get the attention it deserves?
"I Love UK Funky and its so versatile in the mix! Should defo get more recognition."
What is it that you love about the scene?
"The unity in new UKG is amazing right now!"
What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
"Show Me Love, Robin S"
What is your set up?
"2/3 Nexus 2000s mk2s, DJM900 mixer, mic"
Which part of DJing comes most naturally to you?
"Hearing what tune would blend nicely in my head before I’ve tried it!"
Fave venue in the world?
"I did a DJ set on the i360 in Brighton and it was AMAZING! The platform/dancefloor rises 400 ft into the air and gives you panoramic views. I’ll never forget it!"
Advice to younger people going out safely?
"Check how each other is leaving and getting home, especially if you came out together. It's horrible to leave a friend drunk & vulnerable without a safe way to get home. That’s when opportunists strike. Go out together, come home together!"
If one celebrity in the world could come to one of your shows, who would it be?
"Well, I wouldn’t mind if DJ EZ fancied popping down to one of my shows! Maybe a cheeky b2b?"

"I would have said Little Bit of Luck by DJ Luck and MC Neat, but I’ve just completed the official remix for that so!"
