Platinum-selling powerhouse Anton Powers was obsessed with Dance music from such a young age. We find out how it all started for him, the track he is most proud of releasing, and the celeb he wants to attend one of his gigs!

How did it all start for you?

"When I was around 12, I started playing the drums. It was the rhythm and the beats they created that sucked me in.

Then when I was around 14, I heard a song that changed my life. I had never heard music like it and it blew me away. That song was 'More Kante Yeke Yeke' from a CJ Mackintosh Ministry Of Sound Live tape pack!

I became absolutely obsessed with dance music. The emotion and feeling this music gave me is something I am still obsessed with now, all these years later.

I got into all kinds of styles, growing up with happy hardcore and the tape packs from Club Kinetic, Helter Skelter and Dreamscape, and maybe I snuck in underage to a few of these raves 😊

Then at the age of 16, I went to a DJ & Lights Exhibition at Manchester GMEX and Roger Sanchez did a 3 deck set. There was a mirror above the decks and I was transfixed on that mirror for the whole set, just watching what he was doing with live loops, acapella, mixing 2 of the same records together, but with a slight timelapse, then dropping an acapella over it to create something totally new. All live and all on vinyl, and that blew my mind.

I still look back at that and think how mad it is that I have DJed with Roger many times since. Crazy.

By this point, I was fully invested in this scene and nothing else mattered, it was all I was focused on. Fast-forward 20 odd years and it’s been a crazy ride. Number 1 chart single, selling over 1 million songs, thousands of UNBELIEVABLE gigs and also working as an A&R – helping sign and bring through new talent to the scene, then being part of the KISS family, which is something I have wanted to be part of for years, it's all a dream!"

"Baby with Pixie Lott"

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?

"Only do it for the love and nothing else" ❤️

What is your set up?

"Cdjs & a mixer. Also I miss vinyl!"

What single night out has been the most memorable for you as a DJ?

"DJing Tomorrowland for the first time"

What is it that you love about the scene?

"Bringing together of people, no matter where they are from, the colour of their skin, religion, profession, beliefs etc, everyone united from all backgrounds for the love of the scene"

Which one celebrity in the world would you want come to one of your shows?

"Leonardo Dicaprio. He would have a ball and might bring Margot Robbie with him."

What is one subgenre you think doesn't get the attention it deserves?

"Drum & Bass"

"Watching Everton win, a nice meal with mates and then disco dancing till the early hours. Then ending up in a sweaty after hours club till stupid o clock." 🕺
