Sam Smith has said he’s going to have a silent birthday, as he is undergoing an operation on his throat today (14th May).

Sharing a photo of himself in a park, Smith said it was his last day of speaking for three weeks, and apologised to anyone who may see him out on the street.

Smith is due to celebrate his 23rd birthday on 19th May, but it definitely sounds like it could be a quiet affair. Charades perhaps?
Last week, Smith cancelled all of his shows and events as his vocal chords were damaged and required surgery.
