The only criteria you probably think matters when picking your profile picture is whether you look banging or not (but you know not too banging - you don’t want to look like a poser, so mid banging in a laidback carefree kinda way.) However a new study by the University of Pensylvannia shows that the photo you choose for your profile picture reveals a lot about your personality traits.

The study analysed 66,000 users Twitter profile pictures, hosted 434 interviews and identified these trends…

Smiley shot

If you are smiling in your shot, you are conscientious and aware of what’s expected from you in certain situations – and so think you should be smiling in your profile pic!

Squad shot

If your photo has lots of people in it, you are an extrovert who just loves being with other people.

Arty shot

If your photo is of something other than your face, you are open to new experiences. A non-conformist who breaks the mould like by not having their face in their profile picture.

Arty shot number two

If your photo is bright but a little blurry (like with a light shining behind you), you are easy breezy type who gets on with everyone and isn’t easily fazed.

Stuff shot

If your photo looks a little cluttered with lots of stuff in it, chances are you relaxed and generally happy.

Close up shot

If your photo is dark, simple and shows your face very close up, then you are neurotic aka moody, stressy, paranoid and anxious.
