Universal announces when Fifty Shades will return

Universal Pictures has confirmed the release dates of its two sequels to 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'.

The second novel in EL James’ steamy trilogy ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ will open in cinemas on 10th February 2017, while ‘Fifty Shades Freed’, based on the most recent novel, will follow on 9th February 2018.

The original Fifty Shades Of Grey movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, has now grossed over £375 million worldwide since its 13th February release, despite general mixed reviews.

The film was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who previously confirmed she would not return for the sequels following reported disagreements with writer EL James.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the screenplay to ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ will be written by Niall Leonard, the husband of writer EL James.

He has previous screenwriting credits on a number of British TV shows including ‘Wire In The Blood’, ‘The Glen’ and ‘Wild At Heart’.

The director of the sequel is yet to be announced.

A teaser for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ will accompany the Digital HD release of Fifty Shades of Grey on 1st May, with a Blu-Ray release following on 8th May.
