Not only has he had numerous Number 1 selling singles and albums around the world, Ed Sheeran has also tried his hand at acting in Game of Thrones, voice-acting in The Simpsons, and a cameo appearance in Bridget Jones's Baby. Earlier this year, we reported how he was rumoured to be starring in a new Danny Boyle film, and now it has been confirmed with further details about the film, and Ed's role within have been released.

The plot follows a musician (played by Himesh Patel who played Tamwar Masood in EastEnders), who wakes up to find that he is the only person in the world who remembers the legendary band from Liverpool.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press (AP), Ed explained that he will play himself in the upcoming film. He discovers the musician saying, "I take him on tour. Then he gets much, much bigger than me through doing stuff. Yeah, it’s very clever."

Ed went on to explain how the opportunity gave him a chance to learn how to act. "With the Game of Thrones thing, that was literally me popping in for a day and making a cameo. Or B--tard Executioner was me popping in for a day," Ed said, "But this was like full days on set, like full 12-hour days."

The 'Castle On The Hill' singer is believed to have finished his filming earlier this year, when he was in the middle of his tour and the film is due for release in September NEXT year!

Speaking to AP, Ed explained his long-term goal saying he would like to make a Hollywood musical, something similar to the Irish romance Once, explaining, "I want to make something like that. Something like that where songs dictate the film in a way."

Continued, "I can’t see myself playing an Avenger, you know? I don’t really want to be actor."

This comes in the week that Ed has also revealed who his dream collaboration would be with. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 'Shape Of You' singer revealed that he would love to work with the rapper Drake. He said he is hoping to move away from the acoustic guitar and has "learned from looking at how Drake does it."

Ed was then asked why the collaboration hadn't already happened, "I’ve been on tour for god knows how long and he’s been on tour for god knows how long and he’s constantly releasing stuff," explained Ed.

Continuing, "I just think at some point those two worlds have to meet, and I don’t know how or what it sounds like, but I feel like it’s inevitable… I’ve only met him a couple of times. I don’t even know if it’s in the cards. I’d like to think he has the same mindset as me."
