CONFIRMED! Sam Smith records James Bond: Spectre theme song 'Writing's on the Wall'
He confirmed the news this morning!
Despite categorically denying his involvement multiple times, Sam Smith has been unveiled as the singer of theme for the new James Bond movie Spectre.
Breaking the news on Twitter this morning, Sam, 23, revealed the track is called ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ (presumably not a cover of the Plan B track) and is released on 25th September.
“This is one of the highlights of my career,” he enthused to his 3.5million followers. “I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.
“I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.
“I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”
Sam pretty much confirmed his involvement last night when he shared a photo of a ring on his finger with the Spectre insignia on it.
Speaking to Bauer Media back in July, Sam denied he was singing the theme, saying: “I’ve got to tell you, it’s the funniest thing just to sit back and watch everyone confirming something I know nothing about.
“I’ve heard loads of rumours, I would have loved to have done it but I’m definitely not. It’s going to be a great film though – I’ve seen the trailers and it looks amazing. I love Bond.”
Ellie Goulding was also strongly linked to the James Bond theme and even posted a photo of herself leaving Abbey Road Studios where Adele recorded ‘Skyfall’.
Adele’s powerful title track for 2012’s Skyfall won an Academy Award for Best Original Song plus a Grammy, BRIT Award and Golden Globe Award.
Starring Daniel Craig as Bond and Christoph Waltz as villain Franz Oberhauser, Spectre hits UK cinemas on 26th October.
