Channing Tatum to star as a mermaid in remake of 1984 film Splash

Magic Mike star Channing Tatum has been announced as the 'mermaid' in the remake of the 1984 rom-com Splash.
The 36-year-old actor will take on the role originally played by Daryl Hannah, starring opposite Jillian Bell former co-star from the 2014 box office hit 22 Jump Street.

The original film starred Tom Hanks who as a child was saved from drowning by a mermaid. Twenty years later he meets the mermaid (Daryl Hannah) and falls in love, but he has to decide whether to stay on land or join her for a life under the sea.
Ron Howard, the original film's director, who has also directed Frost/Nixon and Angels & Demons, will be returning to produce the film alongside Channing.
Splash was nominated for a number of awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Daryl Hannah won a Saturn Award for Best Actress and a National Society of Film Critics Award was given for Best Screenplay.
