Greater Manchester Police has confirmed a man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of human remains in Salford.

The force says its efforts to identify the remains are ongoing with a major incident team continuing to work around the clock.

Chief Superintendent Tony Creely has been telling us that it's important for them to keep an open mind and continue speaking to people from the community who may have crucial information.

He added the force has not yet found anything more at the scene but insisted their work will not stop until they have thoroughly searched the whole area.

Chief Superintendent Creely also took the opportunity to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation as they continue to have a large presence in the area.

Remains which police believe belong to a man who is likely to be older than 40 were discovered in Kersal Wetlands on Thursday evening.

Since then specialists including forensic units, search teams, and a dog unit have been combing the area as part of the ongoing investigation.
