Police are stepping patrols in the Moss Side area of Manchester following the death of a 17 year old boy.

Prince Walker was fatally stabbed on Thursday afternoon.

Last night Greater Manchester Police put in place temporary 'Section 60' measures giving officers extra stop and search powers in the area.

Police are also urging parents, teachers and neighbours to share anything suspicious.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Dave Fenton said: “We always want our presence to be a reassuring one, but we understand that this visible presence is especially important now more than ever to our local community after the devastating news yesterday.

“We have stepped up local patrols in the area to provide a visible presence in the area.

“We continue to work with partner agencies and local authorities to minimise any disruption caused to the community, as there is a scene on Raby Street with road closures, and we are doing all we can to keep our residents safe and to ensure we remain engaged with the local community and we are here to answer any of your concerns.

“Local work is ongoing to tackle knife crime, and we continue to work hard to engage our young people through school visits to encourage a culture of reporting.

“We are out and about in the area, we are here to provide support and reassurance to the local community and to reiterate that this kind of violence has no place on our streets, and will not be tolerated.

“We are asking those living around Raby Street to check their CCTV and anything that doesn’t seem right or seems suspicious – please contact us.

"We are also appealing to parents, teachers and neighbours, if you notice anything suspicious. Please let us know.

“As enquiries continue, anyone with information regarding the incident on Raby Street can contact police directly by calling 101 or using the Live Chat service on our website. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
