Hewett finished runner up for the second consecutive year following a 6-4 6-2 defeat on Court One.

Japan's Tokito Oda, aged just 17 years and 69 days, has become youngest player to win any Wimbledon singles title (excluding juniors) since 1997, and the youngest male winner at the tournament ever.

Hewett, who is from Norwich, who won the doubles with Gordon Reid on Saturday, hit 11 double faults among 19 unforced errors against the Japanese teenager.

The 25-year-old said: "Obviously it's been an amazing week. I really feel that wheelchair tennis is being put on the map here at Wimbledon.

"Thanks to the All England Club who took a chance on wheelchair tennis and put us on the show courts.

"It didn't go my way but I'll be even more motivated to perform next year."
