Travel advice for Manchester's Chinese New Year
Year of the monkey expected to draw huge crowds.
The city's annual Chinese New Year celebrations take place in Manchester city centre this Sunday and Transport for Greatrer Manchester are advising people to plan ahead the event.
The Dragon Parade and Fireworks event takes place in Albert Square and Chinatown from 12-6pm – just a short walk from the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop or the Piccadilly Gardens stop.
The event will bring some changes to local roads and to bus services, with the 12, 18, 26, 34, 36, 37, 38, 42, 50, 197, X41 and X43 services running to diversions.

Shoppers and people visiting Manchester city centre for this weekend’s Chinese New Year celebrations will be able to park for free.
The parking will be free in all on-street metered bays in zones three and four of the city centre – including streets near Piccadilly Station, in Castlefield and near Whitworth Street – from midday onwards on Saturday February 6 and Sunday February 7.
Visitors will be able to take advantage of the offer to watch this weekend’s Dragon Parade, taking place through the city centre on Sunday February 7 as part of this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations. For the full list visit
