Three men have been jailed for their part in a brawl at Manchester city centre pub prior to a UEFA Champions League match.
Polish nationals, Jaroslaw Gumula, Karol Daieswicz and Marcin Waliczek, were all sentenced at Manchester Crown court yesterday afternoon after being found guilty of violent disorder. They will serve six years of jail time between them.
The incident took place on October 21st 2015, as a number of Sevilla FC fans congregated in Manchester City centre prior to their side’s Champions League tie against Manchester City at the Eitihad Stadium.
It’s thought that the fans were approached by a large group of men who began throwing street furniture and other missiles. Police attended the scene and arrested the three defendants. However, they’ve stressed that Manchester City fans were not involved in the incident.
Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Natalie Qualters said: “I hope the sentence given to these men today will show that there is no place in society for football related violence.
“Whilst we all understand how competitive football rivalries can get, descending into violence is completely unacceptable and anybody who engages in this kind of behaviour will face prosecution.”
Gumula, 37, was found guilty after trial. Daieswicz, 34, and Waliczek, 34, both admitted the same charge.
Gumula and Waliczek – both without fixed adobe – were individually given sentences of 30 months and 22 months in prison. Waliczek, from Tower Gardens, Lincolnshire, was jailed for 20 months.
One man was taken to hospital following the incident at Oysters bar in Manchester.
