Ian Stewart announces he'll retire in 2016
Salford mayor Ian Stewart has announced he’ll retire from the post next year. Labour’s elected mayor has been in the post since 2012 but says he won’t seek re-election.
Over the past three years the former Eccles MP has seen hundreds of council jobs cut due to austerity measures and more recently faced the press in the wake of the spate of shootings across the city.
