The Remorseful Robber

Police are hunting a remorseful robber who apologised to the shop staff as he legged it out of the door in Salford.

The man entered Martin Swiss Confectioners on Eccles Old Road armed with a small knife and a hammer and told two female workers he wanted money from the safe.

After they were unable to unlock it the thief grabbed money from the tills and escaped saying ‘I’m sorry I’ve done your head in girls’.

In total the man stole about £60.

The offender is described as a white man in his 30s with very pale skin, slim build, around 5ft 7in tall with a slightly sunken face. He spoke with a Salford accent.

He was wearing a waterproof jacket pulled over the bottom half of his face, black gloves, black tracksuit trousers and black trainers.

Detective Constable Andrew Quinn said: “The one thing that stood out for both witnesses was how apologetic the male was during and after the robbery.

“However, despite repeatedly apologising, he still went through with the theft so he can’t have been that remorseful.

“We know that the offender was seen soon after the robbery by witnesses outside Costcutter wearing a different coat and riding a bike towards Eccles.
