Queen Becomes Longest Reigning Monarch Ever

Queen Elizabeth II becomes Britain’s longest serving monarch today surpassing Queen Victoria. During her 63 year reign, Her Majesty has visited Greater Manchester several times including a trip to Harpurhey’s Youth Zone in 2013.

The Queen ascended to the throne in 1952 following the death of her father King George VI. During her reign Her Majesty has been to our region to open the Commonwealth Games and even attended a couple’s wedding at Manchester Town Hall in 2012- the bride had written to the Buckingham Palace when she learned the Queen would be visiting the town hall on the day of her wedding.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 saw her visit Manchester and Salford and saw hundreds attend to show their appreciation for Her Majesty who remains a popular figure among many in our region.
