Manchester snow sprung a spring surprise

April snow showers catch out commuters

Snow sprung a spring surprise on Manchester folk during the Thursday morning rush hour.

Heavy flurries caught out commuters and the thick overnight frost meant the ground was cold enough for the snow to stick.

The late winter wonderland lasted an hour-or-so between 6.30am and 7.30am and was followed by a quick thaw.

Motorway Police warned motorists of ‘treacherous’ conditions in places despite the gritters being out across Greater Manchester on Wednesday evening as forecasters predicted a drop in temperatures.

The Met Office say there’s a chance of more rain, sleet and even snow on higher ground for the coming Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
