A man's fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed in Middleton.

Police were called to Cheap Side at about at about 11:30 last night (Saturday 15th October 2015) after men and women were seen fighting.

When officers arrived they found a 27-year-old man with multiple stab wounds and a 23-year-old man with less serious injuries.

Detectives are now searching for a man who is believed to have left the scene before they arrived.

He is described as being around 21, white, of medium build and wearing a grey t-shirt and shorts.

Inspector Caroline Ward, from GMP’s Rochdale borough, said:

“We are still trying to understand exactly what happened and why this man was attacked in such a brutal way. “From enquiries already carried out, this appears to be an isolated incident and I would like to reassure the public we are doing everything we can to find the person responsible. “If you saw anything, or have any information to do with this incident then please call us.
