A Swindon sheltered housing resident got the shock of her life when she found a royal python in her toilet.

This meant Swindon Council's staff had to switch out their usual day jobs to save the day.

Two weeks ago, Oliver (Parking Team Leader) and James (Payroll Administrator) helped safely remove the slippery stowaway, teaming up with Housing Response Officers and an on-call contractor to prevent it from making an unplanned visit to other properties.

After an overnight stakeout (because the snake made a great escape under the bath), the team managed to secure and safely rehome it with Cold-Blooded Creatures.

The rescue team originally named the snake Gerald, but on closer inspection has now been renamed to Geraldine.

Swindon Borough Council have assured the public that unexpected snake visits aren't the usual.
