Tributes pour in for Amen Teklay, 15, as police investigate his murder

The death of a "funny and bright" 15-year-old boy in Glasgow is being treated as murder, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to a report of a person found seriously injured in Clarendon Street, Glasgow, at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The boy, who can now be named as Amen Teklay, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amen Teklay was just 15 years old

Police said that following a post-mortem examination his death is being treated as murder.

Investigation continues

Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly said: "Our thoughts are with Amen's family and friends at this distressing time. We will continue to provide specialist support for them as our investigation continues.

"We are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and anyone who has dashcam, private CCTV or doorbell footage around the time of the incident."

Superintendent Christopher Stewart, said: "I understand that residents in the area will be very concerned following this incident, however, I can reassure them we are working very closely with our detective colleagues and there will continue to be a visible policing presence in the area.

"I would urge anyone with questions, concerns or information to approach officers who are there to help."

'Funny and bright'

Kingsway Community Connections posted a tribute on social media reading: "Amen was involved in our Youth Group and Film Group over the past year and was still receiving support from our staff until yesterday afternoon.

"He was funny, bright and enjoyed playing football, he loved pizza nights and taking part in a summer BBQ.

"Our memories of Amen are encapsulated in this film he made together with his friends where he talked about why attending the group was important to him.

"Amen developed great relationships with our team, and we are all devastated with his sudden death."

JATV Goals Youth Group wrote: "Our community is heartbroken as we come to terms with the loss of a young boy who had his full life ahead of him."

'Much loved young man'

Claire McInally, Headteacher, St Thomas Aquinas Secondary said: “This is a tragic situation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Amen’s family and friends at this devastating time.

“Amen was a friendly and much loved young man who was really interested in music and the media. He was bright and showed great promise.

“This has been a shock for our school community, and we are continuing to offer support to our young people, staff and those in the wider community who are affected.”
