The Xcerts cover Architects’ ‘Gone With The Wind’ in tribute to Tom Searle
All proceeds are going to the hospital where Tom was treated
The Xcerts have released a stunning cover of the Architects track ‘Gone With The Wind’ in memory of Tom Searle.
Earlier this month, Tom’s twin brother and bandmate Dan broke the devastating news on Architects’ Facebook page that Tom had died following a courageous three year battle with cancer.
In the immediate aftermath stars from across the rock world including Biffy Clyro, You Me At Six, Every Time I Die, All Time Low and Royal Blood all paid poignant tribute on social media.
Now, The Xcerts have released an emotionally raw and beautiful version of the ‘All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’ track ‘Gone with the Wind' in Tom’s honour.
The song is available to download from music-glue now on a pay-as-much-as-you-want basis to raise money for the Martlet’s Hospice in Hove where Tom was cared for.
You can listen to and buy the track below and also read The Xcerts’ tribute to Tom.
“Dear Tom,
I know you’re probably deep in conversation with Bowie and Prince about writing and recording so i’m going to keep this short and sweet. I threatened for years i’d record one of your songs acoustically and i’ve finally done it. You are well aware ‘Gone With The Wind’ is a personal favourite of mine and i sincerely hope i’ve done you and the boys justice.
Our favourite past time was talking for hours on end about songwriting and our connection was certainly built upon the fact you and i saw the romance in what we both did, regardless of the fact you wrote heavy epics and i write pop songs. I was always so intrigued and inquisitive about your writing as listening to your songs, to me, was like watching ‘Inception’. “Where on earth did you start with this” became my tagline every time i heard a new demo. Your skill and craftsmanship within songwriting was and will forever be an absolute wonder to me. I’m glad you could never fully explain where a song came from, deep down i never wanted to find out.
All money raised will be donated to the Martlet’s Hospice in Hove where Tom was cared for. Please feel free to spread the word and i sincerely hope you enjoy the rendition. Huge thanks to the boys and family for giving me their blessing, Brighton Electric, Jag Jago (engineer), Steve Ansell from Blood Red Shoes (backing vocals) and my man Jordan Smith (backing vocals / piano) for making this happen.
Stream and purchase the track from the link below. It’s Pay What You Want so feel free to go nuts. This is all about raising as much money for the hospice as possible and honouring Tom.
Thank you for the inspiration and thank you for being a beautiful friend,
Love. Always love. x“
