Published 29th Oct 2013

The White Stripes’ ‘Elephant’ has been named the most influential album of the past two decades by readers of MOJO Magazine.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the popular music monthly, MOJO asked its readers to have their say on ‘20 Albums That Shook the Last 20 Years’.

Readers voted for their favourite album in each year of the magazine’s existence, with The White Stripes’ critically acclaimed 2003 opus accumulating the most votes overall.

Phil Alexander, editor-in-chief of MOJO magazine commented: “A decade on from its release, Elephant has lost none of its charm or power.

“Building on the band’s three previous LPs, it delivered accessible and complex material in equal measure. The album helped spawn a raft of two-piece imitators, yet continues to stand alone.”

Arcade Fire’s ‘Funeral’ is at no.2 ahead of Bob Dylan’s ‘Time Out Of Mind’ and Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’ at three and four respectively.

Other albums inside the top 20 include The Strokes’ ‘This Is It’ (5), Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ (10) and Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ (19).
